How to Give Volume Access to a Drive in Windows Server 2008 R2

this is required when we need to install MS CRM and get the error i posted in
 http://ms-crm-2011-beta.blogspot.sg/2012/04/systemexception-action.html

so for this we need the volume access.
i will present here how to give volume access.
1. go to the respective SQL server
2. run MMC
3. then File -> Add/Remove Snap-ins...
4. then click Add ->
5. click finish and Ok
6. then click shares in the left side folder structure
7. then right click on shares folder and select new
8, then next and select the drive where your mdf and ldf files are there (ex D:\)

9. then click next
10. enter shared name as dirve$ (ex : D$), if any description , like shared to install MS CRM or create Org
11. click next and leave as it is
12. now click finish.

13. then go the server where you are installing MS CRM, try to access
\\<SQLServerName>\D$
if it is accessible then it should go on and you can carry on with installation and creating org.

hope this will help for sure...

Importing Notes and Attachments with Parent Records in MS CRM 2011

sometimes we need this Importing Notes and Attachments with Parent Records in MS CRM 2011.
i got the below link, which is quite helpful...
http://mscrmshop.blogspot.sg/2012/06/importing-notes-attachments-in-crm2011.html.

make sure you are using both as CSV file, else you will get error, if you are using mix of csv and xml.

i doubt if this can help for updating any existing records with the Notes and Attachments.

Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation. Click 'Retry' to retry the failed action.. SQL installation for MS CRM 2011

While i was installing SQL 2008 R2 to install MS CRM 2011 , i faced the below error alert message.

"Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.Click 'Retry' to retry the failed action, or click 'Cancel' to cancel this action and continue setup"

then if u cancel this it will go ahead with failed status in the SQL engine , so other componets it will install.

so u DONOT click cancel, let that alert be there and do the below and then click RETRY.
then it should go ahead.

just give the account you are using to install as full access to the below folder in the registry key.
run "regedit" command and then traverse all the way to "security".
"HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI\security"
right click on that and select permissions, then select the account you are using, then click full permission and then click "RETRY", in your alert window. Now it should go smoothly.

In my scenarion, i come to know my OS team has hardened it, so they have even restricted these things for the admin, by using which the OS also installed.

any way after doing this you can give back the "READ" permission to that account in security.

Auto Collapse Ribbon in form MS CRM 2011 (UNSUPPORTED)

sometimes we need to ribbon to be automatically collapsed, as we may need the user to see more info when the form is loading. also if we have the header containing more info then the info in the form will be less, so we can collapse the ribbon automatically.
less info showing in the form...

just add the below lone of code in the onload of the form.

parent.document.getElementById('minimizeribbon').click();

the above line of code, just gets the object of the ribbon and force the "Click" event automatically...

after auto hide...

btw, this is 'UNSUPPORTED' way.
